Residents opposing a proposed ICE detention facility turned out in force at a county commission meeting after the agency retracted its Lebanon announcement.

Although Israel withdrew most of its forces from southern Lebanon within months of the November 2024 ceasefire with Hezbollah, it has kept five outposts in southern Lebanon, along the border, with some several hundred to 1,000 or so soldiers stationed there to ensure there will be no surprise attack penetration into Israel.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Monday his country will continue to support Lebanon and its army to strengthen state authority.

Lebanon’s government signaled it’s open to expanding its role in the US-led task force monitoring the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah and stepping up efforts to disarm the Iran-backed militia.

“Here we are just outside of our yard with, I would say, three big truckloads of bushes and brush.”

According to the Tennessee Lookout, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has purchased a facility in Lebanon to house detained immigrants.

Israel, with the help of Syria's new government led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, has succeeded at blocking much of the cross-border Lebanon-Syria weapons smuggling activities.

On Monday, a spokesperson with ICE was adamant about not confirming the Lebanon Facility. Less than 24 hours later, another ICE spokesperson confirmed the purchase.
