The Yankees have made their first acquisition of the new year, signing veteran infielder Paul DeJong to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Major League Spring Training, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.
The Bombers acquired Elmer Rodriguez in a deal with the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Carlos Narvaez last offseason and it is paying dividends for both sides. Narvaez enjoyed a strong season for the Sox last year, posting a .726 OPS in 118 games, while Rodriguez climbed the ranks in the Bombers’ system.
